She smiles. “I’m sorry too. I broke the rules and well…” she pauses, bites the inside of her lip (curse her stupid habits) and takes another tentative step in, “And I may have overreacted a little bit too. But umm…can we ask questions before we pull a gun next time…at least when it’s my office?” she looks down at the floor boards, “I mean I promise no random strangers without clearance. That wont happen again, but…” she trails off again looking back at him. “Are we,” she gestures between the two of them,  “okay?” She hoped for the girls sake (and let’s face it, for her own sake too) that they could get past it.

“Noo ,yeah. I mean, yeah. YES. We are okay.” But was okay for them? They were surely going to go back to normal, but was “normal” for them really “okay”?? He looked at Ms. Williams as he mulled this over in his head. Her eyes were vibrant, and only shined brighter as she smiled. As he moved his way down her facial features, he reached her lips and realized they were moving..!
“…What was that?”

She freezes. “What was what?” she says not sure what he’s talking about. He could have been asking about Jack but something about the way he looked at her made her think that wasn’t it. She stared at him confused, again. He was one of the few people who managed to constantly confuse her.

“I… nothing…” There was silence for a moment. “Do you…. wanna play a game?” He motioned toward to pool table with his stick and kept his eyes low while he waited for an answer. Where he was going with this, he wasn’t quite sure. However, he knew that he had to stop thinking for once. Thinking was what had gotten him into this mess. It was late, the girls were all in bed and the club was closed the next day… now would be his only chance.

“Well,” she says in a sweet tone, “You can’t say that anymore.” She takes a tentative step into his office. “Listen, about yesterday…” she trails off not sure exactly what to say.

“No. You don’t have to explain. I got antsy and I overreacted a teeeeeeeensy bit with the whole gun thing. I mean, he shouldn’t have been back there, because that’s just a rule, but I freaked out. I mean, I just don’t like that guy.. whatever.. i don’t know. But, he’s just… He’s not… I don’t..” He was stammering and talking faster than his brain could think. “I know that I overreacted (part of the reason I indulged in some light drinking this evening). That’s all. Sorry I guess.”

He stopped immediately and looked at her.

”I… uhh..” he stammered for some sort of answer.

“Well, I’ve always enjoyed a good number. And I need something to do while I play with my lovely new stick…”

He laughed, head swirling from the liquor that had seeped into his blood stream. She smiled, leaning against the doorway, her eyes crinkling slightly. He broke off as the music came to a sudden end and the record stalled on the machine. There was a silence for a moment.

”No one’s ever really gotten me a present…” He blurted out. Having little to no control of his actions was one thing, but his words were his greatest weapon, and now they had betrayed him.

This only happens to me, when I’m with YOU! If there are stars in my eyes, you put them there. And for you… they will always SHINE. Now that you’re MIIIIINE,”

Big Guy had put on some of his old records, and somewhere between twenty minutes ago and now, he had gotten shit faced. His voice had picked up to more than his usual whisper as he sang along with her soft voice. He found himself dancing around that table and twirling to get to the next ball - not as if he was getting them in the pockets anyway…

She heard the music before she got anywhere close to the door. The closer the got the broader her smile got. Was he singing? Was the Big Guy singing along? She knew he liked Valentine’s day, a solid profit made him happier than anything else in the world, well that she knew of. She knocked, but she was pretty sure he didn’t hear it so she slid the door open. She couldn’t help but laugh as she watched him twirling around and singing. She didn’t want to say anything, part of her just wanted to see what he does when he thinks he’s alone, the other part knew he’d get mad, so she decided to lean against the door frame. Then she waited a beat before saying in as somewhat serious tone, “Happy Valentine’s Day, boss.”

He stopped immediately and looked at her.

Yesterday had been… well he wasn’t sure how to describe the turn of events. He did know that whatever bullshit had happened yesterday didn’t matter, because it was Valentines Day: one of the busiest (therefore one of the best!) days of the year! Good business always put him in a good mood and today was definitely no exception. So instead of clouding his thoughts with Ms. Williams and Jack Ass, he decided he would cloud them with some pool and Jack Daniels.

He, as was routine, slammed the Jack down on the green and reached for his pool stick - but it wasn’t there. He spun and looked at the empty spot where his stick always was, and in it’s place, was a note. He opened it up, read it briskly and examined the signature carefully. He turned, and on the pool table was a brand new stick with a pink bow on it.

Pulling up his chair, he sat and lit a cigarete, wondering what to make of the situation. Big Guy had been feeling awfully unsure of himself and he didn’t like it. After a long five minutes, he got up, removed the bow, set the balls, and broke.

Ms. Williams had snuck into the Big Guys’ office before he got there. She had gotten it for him before the fight about Jack. Even though she was upset about it all she decided to give the gift to him anyway. She had written a somewhat vague note but she figured he probably knew who it was. As she approached his office she heard the vague sound of pool and something she couldn’t pinpoint.

This only happens to me, when I’m with YOU! If there are stars in my eyes, you put them there. And for you… they will always SHINE. Now that you’re MIIIIINE,”
